Trump speaks out on possible indictment: ‘There was no crime, period’

On Saturday, Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday over a case out of New York City DA Alvin Bragg's office that alleges he paid hush money to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election, and on Sunday Trump said "There was no crime, period."
"When Alvin Bragg first attained office, he made it very clear that, like many other prosecutors, there was no case against Donald J. Trump," the former president wrote. "Then the Biden Administration, the Democrats, and the Fake News Media began pushing him, and pushing him hard, and low and behold he said that there might just be a case after all."

Bragg's case against Trump claims he falsified business records and that his company accounted for $130,000 to be paid to Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer, who acted as a cash passthrough to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Bragg reportedly pans to elevate the charge to the status of a felony, which means the NYC DA has attached an "intent to defraud" motive to the accusation. Trump denied on Truth Social that there was no crime, misdeanor or felony.
Bragg may also try to charge Trump with a violation of New York State election law and say that the $130,000 was an illegal donation to Trump's campaign. Under that charge the allegation would be that the hush money directly benefited Trump's 2016 election bid.
On Twitter, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said that "Biden’s DOJ is coordinating with the Democrat Manhattan DA to arrest Donald Trump, the top Republican Presidential candidate for 2024, and charge him with a fake outdated misdemeanor charge."

I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions."
