Two detectives of the Louisville Police Department have been fired for their actions surrounding the death of Breonna Taylor in her apartment.
Detectives Myles Cosgrove and Joshua Jaynes were fired on Tuesday, and there exists the possibility of further terminations of employment and disciplinary actions against those who were involved, according to USA Today.
The shooting of Breonna Taylor shooting made the news worldwide, causing tension and controversy especially in Louisville, where the incident occurred. Brett Hankison, another officer involved directly in the shooting, was fired in June 2020.
The FBI investigation conducted into the matter concluded that Cosgrove and others violated procedures regarding the proper use of force and failed to use a body camera, as did his colleagues.
The investigation also found that Cosgrove was the person that fired the fatal shot that killed Taylor, aged 26 years.
Jaynes was not present at the shooting, but has been terminated for violations of policy regarding the proper and truthful preparation of a search warrant.
Cosgrove, upon hearing the news, sent an email to his now ex-colleagues criticizing the Louisville Police Department for what he calls, "succumbing to political pressures."
"Think about that next time you put on the uniform and badge. For those of you still doing real police work, it's just a matter of time till you will be a sacrificial lamb. I plead with you, do nothing," said Cosgrove in an email.
Hankison has filed an appeal, which is still pending, and Cosgrove and Jaynes are expected to do the same. Criminal investigations into the incident are also still in progress.
