A man in a red sweater inexplicably appeared in front of the UN headquarters in Manhattan, holding a shotgun aimed at his chin from below. He has since been apprehended by authorities.

"This man is pacing around with a shotgun aimed at himself in front of the UN building in NYC," writes journalist Ian Miles Cheong on Twitter:

As of yet, the motive for his actions is completely unknown to the public.

NYPD quickly arrived on the scene and set up tactical positions around the man, aiming sniper rifles at him, most probably in order to be ready for a worst-case scenario:

However, the sniper rifles turned out not to be necessary. Minutes after police arrived, they were able to diffuse the situation by means of careful negotiation. The man has now been taken into NYPD custody.

Thankfully, there was nobody killed or injured in the slightest during the incident. The man was able to be taken peacefully.

"The standoff at the #UnitedNations is over. The Man who was holding a #shotgun is now in the custody of the #NYPD. No Injuries or fatalities," reads the caption to the tweet:

As of this writing, there is still no word on if the man has been or will be charged, or what charges he may wind up facing from the incident.

Since this is a developing story, more updates should be made available soon.
