After the Atlanta shooting, the #StopAsianHate has started gaining traction on Twitter. Now authorities are asking for help after a brutal assault of an Asian-American man was shared on the platform early Monday.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Unit asked for the public’s help in identifying the assailant seen in a highly shared TikTok video.

Nobody intervened. The original description by Twitter user @AsianDawn4: "A person violently beats up and punches an Asian male in the head repeatedly in a Manhattan Bound (J) train at Kosciuszko Street Station, chokes him afterwards until he is unconscious. Be on the lookout for this person!"

It’s unclear what caused the encounter as the clip we see started after the altercation began, with commenters suggesting it might have been a mugging. The suspect left the train after choking the victim unconscious after hitting him in the face, head and neck numerous times.

Some commenters observed that the attacker walked away with the white Apple bag that the victim was initially holding, departing the train coach at the end of the video.

The only clue as to the motive is said by other passengers on the train. They alleged the attacker beat the victim because the victim called him the N-word, but no evidence can be seen of the claim in the video itself.

Over the past week, Asian Hate Crime stories have popped up on the West Coast. In one instance in San Francisco, an Asian woman was ambushed and dragged by the car side door of her attackers after they robbed her. Meanwhile in Seattle, a Black Lives Matter activist faces charges of anti-Asian hate crimes over threats made against a woman and her children earlier this month.
