"Why are we having so many jets scorching over DC? Nerve-wracking. I get 250 celebrations but it feels like the apocalypse."
A New York Times podcast host was mocked on social media on Friday after saying that the high number of military jets flying over the nation’s capital as part of celebrations for America’s 250th birthday "feels like the apocalypse."
Lulu Garcia-Navarro wrote on Friday morning, "Why are we having so many jets scorching over DC? Nerve-wracking. I get 250 celebrations but it feels like the apocalypse."
A number of flyovers have taken place in recent weeks as part of the celebrations, increasing in frequency during the week of the Fourth of July. On the holiday itself, dozens of flyovers are planned to take place, including Air Force One, the Blue Angels, the Thunderbirds, and many others.
Garcia-Navarro was quickly mocked by social media users. The US Oil and Gas Association wrote, "We are sad the loud noises of Air Supremacy scare you."
PJ Media writer Stephen Green wrote, "Journalism was better when it was grizzled old guys with finely-honed bullshit detectors and zero fucks to give, instead of know-nothing prisses."
Others sarcastically apologized to Garcia-Navarro.
Some users said that Garcia-Navarro was a communist for her disdain, while others replied with memes. Novelist Jon Gabriel wrote, "Every flyover burns commie cells from your body and replaces them with freedom molecules. A painful process for anyone on the left, but essential nonetheless."
