The province of Ontario recorded 3,270 new transmissions of the coronavirus on Monday, nearly breaking the record set over the weekend.
The highest amount of reported new cases in a 24-hour period still stands at 3,363, just ahead of the most recent 3,270. That record was just set on Saturday. Cases have remained high in the province with cases now surpassing the 3,000 threshold.
According to CTV News, the number of tests performed was on the low side this time, with 39,121 tests having been completed in this period. This means that the positivity rate is up this time, and approaching 10 percent. This last positivity rate was 9.7 percent, tying a previous record.
Twenty-nine people died in Ontario in this same period, bringing the death toll province-wide to 4,679. This time, less than half of the deaths were residents of long-term care facilities.
There are currently 24,778 people with unresolved cases in Ontario. Hospitals have 1,190 active coronavirus patients at this time, of which 333 require intensive care, and 194 of those are on ventilators.
Areas hardest hit within this period continue to be the same as usual: Toronto (917 new cases,) Peel Region (581 new cases,) York Region (389 new cases,) Windsor-Essex (246 new cases,) Ottawa (131 new cases,) Waterloo (126,) and Durham Region (122).
