The Ontario government says that it will be opening a coronavirus field hospital later in the month of April as the province experiences a rise in hospitalizations, CP24 reports.
According to the Ministry of Health, the mobile health units are being set up in the parking lot of Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, and will be taking patients within a few weeks.
The provincial government further stated that the mobile units will help free up space in hospitals facing rising numbers of patients as Ontario's new confirmed case numbers continue to remain higher than ever.
The mobile units will be taking both critical and acute patients.
The announcement comes one day after Ontario's seven-day rolling average of new cases topped 4,000 for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
The Ford government has taken other measures in an attempt to reduce the spread of coronavirus across the province as the vaccine rollout continues to remain sluggish. Earlier this month, the province instituted a stay-at-home order, the third of its kind since the beginning of the pandemic.
