Ontario residents in Toronto and the Peel region are panic buying on Saturday. This comes as looming lockdowns threaten to shut down the economy, once again. “I’m going to buy for a month, at least for a month, for sure,” one customer told CTV News Toronto.

Another customer interviewed at local Toronto Costco said, "It’s not the greatest feeling to stand in line, especially when it’s getting colder outside but what can you do? You gotta buy stuff." Lines are reported to stretch multiple blocks in some cases.

One customer named Roberta said she was happy she could shop at Costco, but was upset that small retailers were being forced to shut down. “My husband is a small little retailer, and having one or two people come into his store is not harming anybody like this. Here people are standing on top of each other,” said Roberta.

CTV also interviewed  a salon owner named Mamak Tabatabei, who said she’s very worried about the future. “It’s right before Christmas; they’re closing us down again. They’re saying 28 days. Last time they said two weeks and then it was four months. I don’t know, it’s really frustrating.”
