Pelosi claims Trump 'trying to do revisionist history' after clip of her taking responsibility for J6 security failures surfaces

"The former president and his toadies do not want to face the facts," Pelosi claimed.

On Monday, a clip was released by the Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Oversight in which Nancy Pelosi admitted on January 6, 2021 that the security failures that day were, at least in part, her responsibility. After it went viral, however, the former House Speaker accused Donald Trump and the American right of engaging in "revisionist history."

In an interview with MSNBC, Pelosi did not take responsibility for the hundreds of people who were able to breach the Capitol, and instead blamed Trump for allegedly refusing to send the National Guard in "for hours."

"Why do you think this has stirred up a brouhaha on the right and in some corners of the media today?" Nicole Wallace asked.

"The fact is, the president of the United States– the former president, and his toadies do not want to face the facts," Pelosi replied. "They're trying to do revisionist history on January 6, but we cannot let us be dragged into their false impression of what happened that day; they know what happened that day."

Pelosi went on to call the actions of those who stormed the Capitol "shameful," claiming they had been carrying "Confederate flags and Nazi flags" as they entered the building. She placed the blame squarely at the feet of Donald Trump.

"This president who incit– this former president who incited this insurrection would not send the National Guard for hours," she stated, suggesting that Trump then "tried to deny that any of it happened."

The footage in question was shot by Pelosi's daughter, Alexandra, who went on to create HBO's "The Insurrectionist Next Door." While driving around Washington, DC, Pelosi told her Chief of Staff, Terri McCullough, "We have responsibility."

"We did not have any accountability for what was going on there, and we should have," she added. "This is ridiculous. You’re going to ask me in the middle of the thing when they’ve already breached the inaugural stuff that should we call the Capitol police — I mean the National Guard? Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?"

Off camera, someone said, "They thought that they had sufficient resources," to which Pelosi responded, "They clearly didn't know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more."

In September 2023, Trump claimed that Pelosi had been "in charge of security that day," and "turned down 10,000 soldiers." It was revealed earlier this year that the January 6 Committee "hid" evidence showing Trump called for 10,000 troops to handle the unrest.
