The drug dealers "threw her body into the street" and "dumped a pile of cash" on top of her, which her boyfriend then grabbed.
On Monday, a 21-year-old pregnant Chicago woman, Genesis Escobar, was gunned down during an alleged botched robbery where Escobar and her boyfriend attempted to rob a group of drug dealers, who then opened fire on the pair.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Escobar, who was 7 months pregnant, allegedly met the drug dealers and got in their car to complete a "drug transaction" but then her boyfriend flanked the vehicle in an attempt to rob the crew, prompting the drug dealers to shoot Escobar multiple times before she "tumbled out of the car."
The shooting occurred around 1 pm on Chicago's Northwest Side in the neighborhood of Belmont Cragin.
The New York Post reports that after Escobar was shot, the drug dealers "threw her body into the street" and "dumped a pile of cash" on top of her, which her boyfriend then grabbed.
Escobar's boyfriend, after he retrieved cash from on top of her body, fled as she was bleeding out.
According to local news, police confirmed that Escobar was shot in the hand, shoulder, and back. She was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she and her unborn baby were pronounced dead.
The Chicago Sun-Times retrieved court records that show Escobar was on probation "for a misdemeanor battery conviction and was under indictment on a felony count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle." She had other charges of drug possession and retail theft that had been dropped.
A family friend, Iris Alvarez, told CBS, "I don’t know if she was into some kind of trouble."
"She texted my daughter and told my daughter, 'Please help me! I’m in trouble!' But my daughter was sleeping," she added.
Police are investigating and no arrests have been made.
