Nova Scotia's provincial election ended on a high note for its Progressive Conservatives (PCs), who defeated the governing Liberals.

So far, the PCs, led by chartered accountant Tim Houston, either lead or have been elected in 30 seats, compared with the Liberals’ 15 and the NDP’s 9, reports Global News.

Even if a majority government is not formed, the result ends the streak of incumbent provincial governments winning pandemic elections across Canada.

Twenty-eight seats are needed to form a majority government and end an eight-year run for the provincial Liberals.

The PCs unveiled big-spending platform with an emphasis on bolstering health care.

The incumbent Liberals, led by Iain Rankin, pledged tight-fisted fiscal conservatism and post-pandemic optimism.

The NDP made gains from the last election, increasing their seat count with wins in Halifax.
