Biden's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been paying activist organizations hundreds of thousands of dollars to create "counter-propaganda" surrounding issues such as immigration and racial justice at the cost of US taxpayers, according to reports.

A letter sent to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) accuses the Biden administration of utilizing federal funds for an "outrageous" abuse of power.

The letter states that "the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) paid an activist group $700,000 to 'write blog posts that criticized Donald Trump and other conservatives under the guise of media literacy.'"

Citing reports from the Daily Wire about the grant, Hawley wrote that the DHS "provided a grant to the University of Rhode Island's Media Education Lab to create 'counter-propaganda.’”

The grant application states, that the media lab will "use community-created counterpropaganda to raise public awareness" to improve "media literacy" about topics ranging from immigration to racial issues.

Further, the application states, "Counterpropaganda has been found to be most effective when it is nonmilitary, focused and authentic, and based on truth. There are numerous examples of how intentionally designed media messages can be used to shift public opinion."

The media lab was given $700,000 in the grant to fund the effort and create the "counterpropaganda."

Furthermore, Sen. Hawley's letter mentions that this is not the first time the Biden administration has provided grants to leftist organizations through the TVTP program.

"There appears to be a pattern of funneling taxpayer dollars through the TVTP program to disparage conservatives," Sen. Hawley writes.

"Last year, reports indicated that your Department provided a grant to a University of Dayton program to fight 'domestic violent extremism and hate movements.' The year prior to the grant award, the university's Human Rights Center - which runs the program - hosted a seminar during which the Christian Broadcasting Network, the National Rifle Association, Fox News, and other mainstream conservative organizations were included in a 'pyramid of far-right radicalization' with neo-Nazis and white supremacists."

The University of Dayton program received more than $350,000 from DHS, according to reports cited in the letter.

"This amounts to the use of government funds to further President Biden’s political agenda," Hawley wrote. "All these funds should be clawed back by the federal government immediately, and anyone involved in making this grant should be fired."
