Tylance Jackson and Maurice Thompson, two deputies working for the St. Louis Sheriff's Office, have been let go after it was found out that they worked on the side doing security detail for Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO).

It appears that the pair did not have the proper authorization to be able to do this sort of work on the side, and St. Louis Sheriff Vernon Betts immediately took action when he saw the two of them appear on video obviously acting as Rep. Bush's bodyguards.

According to the Daily Caller, Betts also commented that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred involving Jackson and Thompson. Betts iterated that the two moonlighting officers had been warned about taking unauthorized side jobs before, and apparently they had ignored repeated warnings to not do it again

The final incident had the pair captured on video in Apr. 2021, where they were working as private security for Rep. Bush, as she toured St. Louis's jails.

Rep. Bush is also famous, ironically enough, for being a very vocal proponent of "defunding the police." Even more ironically, she wound up spending a total of just shy of $70,000 this year on private security, including paying for the services of Thompson and Jackson. She later said that in her case the security was necessary because there were "attempts on her life."

Jackson, on his part, stated that he felt that the firings of Thompson and himself were unfair, and represented a double standard. He commented to the media:

"I do feel that the hand that was dealt to us was unfair and unjust. You let us go, but you still have a plethora of individuals doing that but you don’t say anything."
