Donald Trump was briefly prevented from taking the stage at the 2024 Bitcoin conference on Saturday in Nashville by Secret Service following a security lapse that saw two people enter the event without going through metal detectors.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post, the two individuals made their way inside Music City Center without going through the metal detectors where the conference was held shortly after 3:30pm. The two did get stopped at an initial checkpoint.

In a statement to the outlet, the Secret Service said the two people were "credentialed and screened," but removed from the premises for not following proper entry protocol. "It was determined that there was no protective interest with these individuals and there was never a threat to the former president," a spokesperson said.

The sources said that Trump was instructed by his security detail to wait as he was set to give the keynote address until the people were located. Once they were tracked down, they were questioned and removed from the event. The two people were not criminally charged.

The security lapse comes around two weeks after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, carried out by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks. He shot from a nearby rooftop, striking Trump in the ear and injuring two others. Former fire chief Corey Comperatore was killed in the shooting while he shielded his family from the gunfire.

In the wake of the assassination attempt, Congress has grilled agency heads in an attempt to determine how Crooks was able to get an opening to make the assassination attempt. The day after appearing before Congress, US Secret Service head Kimberly Cheatle resigned.
