The United States Secret Service suspended six agents last year who were involved in security operations when a shooter attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.

"The discipline against the six agents was issued in recent months, and the agents were given the right to appeal. The suspensions ranged from 10 to 42 days, according to the official, who was briefed on the agency's actions," ABC stated.

According to CBS News, Deputy Director of the Secret Service, Matt Quinn, said that the six employees received 10 to 42-day suspensions without pay or benefits, and were assigned roles with reduced operational responsibilities upon their return.

"We are laser-focused on fixing the root cause of the problem," Quinn told CBS News on Wednesday. "We aren't going to fire our way out os this. We're going to focus on the root cause and fix the deficiencies that put us in that situation."

"Secret Service is totally accountable for Butler," he continued. "Butler was an operational failure, and we are focused today on ensuring that it never happens again."

Quinn's comments stem from the July 13, 2024, attempted assassination of President Trump carried out by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot dead by a Secret Service sniper. Quinn's predecessor Kimberly Cheadle was forced to resign after Secret Service failures nearly cost the president his life.

Only a few months later, in September, another attempt was almost made on Trump's life as he was golfing in Florida. Agents were able apprehend the would-be assassin before he was able to take a fatal move.
