Slack, the online workspace app, was having technical issues on Monday, the first working day of the New Year, which appeared to affect most users.
"Customers may experience issues connecting to Slack to loading channels at this time. Our team is on the case and we will keep you posted. Apologies for any disruption," tweeted the Slack team early Monday morning.
According to Business Insider, there are over 15,000 reports of issues by users on Downdetector, and the number is growing.
Users on twitter responded to the initial tweet in kind:
"100% down and a server error when trying to load. I would call that an "outage" - not a degraded service 'incident'" to which the Slack team later responded:
"We've updated the severity on our end. Please check the status site for updates."
Slack's spokesperson released the following statement to the media:
"Our teams are aware and are investigating the issue. We know how important it is for people to stay connected and we are working hard to get everyone running as normal. For the latest updates please keep an eye on @slackstatus and status.slack.com."
Since the pandemic started and people's movements have been limited, many more people have relied on Slack's conferencing features, and similar features of companies such as Zoom, to run their companies.
The app was back up in a few hours.
