The confrontation was filmed by the outlet Vox Populi, whose reporter repeatedly pressed Trudeau to apologize for what he described as deaths and jailings linked to Canada’s pandemic policies. In the footage, Trudeau is seen smiling and laughing as questions are put to him, before choosing not to engage and walk away. Trudeau also accused the reporter of spreading misinformation.
The reporter called out Trudeau for pushing vaccination policies that he claimed harmed Canadians, citing deaths following COVID-19 vaccination and restrictions placed on unvaccinated citizens, including limits on public transport and worship. Trudeau did not answer the questions and made what an aide described on camera as a “deliberate choice” not to speak.
"My old cameraman's mother actually died after complications from the Covid vaccine. So is that misinformation? Oh, now you're laughing," the reporter says to Trudeau.
"Mr. Trudeau, could I ask you a few questions, please? Oh, come on. The spirit of dialogue is the theme of the WEF this year. Well… given that we now know that the lockdown measures in Canada were wrong, do you want to take the opportunity to at least admit that and say sorry to those who were affected?"
At one point, Trudeau acknowledged a question about LGBTQ issues by calling them “fundamental human rights,” but offered no response when asked whether lockdown measures were authoritarian or wrong.
Trudeau attended the WEF this year as a private individual, no longer serving as Canada’s prime minister.
"They can't even answer simple questions. Justin, thank you for your time. Thank you for not answering very simple questions after you have ruined countless lives in Canada with your vaccine mandate and your authoritarian lockdowns. Thank you very much, Justin. You are a terrible Prime Minister. Goodbye!" the reporter told Trudeau.
"So that was Justin Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada, the man who was a Prime Minister during his authoritarian lockdowns and, what you could say, cruel vaccination mandates. He went to ban the unvaccinated from civil society. He's here in Davos, no longer as an elected representative of Canada, talking about soft power. Yet he can't answer simple, yet hard questions," the reporter said.
