Sheriff Woods said, "They fled the scenes but left a lot of evidence in their wake."
On Thursday, two Florida minors, 2-year-old Christopher Atkins and 17-year-old Robert Robinson, were charged with the murders of three other minors by the Marion County Sheriff's office who said the two were part of a burglary gang.
According to the New York Post, a "shirtless, babyfaced" Atkins was handcuffed as he was transported to jail from the local Florida police station.
Authorities said that 16-year-old Tahj Brewton was a third suspect along with Atkins and Robinson in the triple homicide. A $10,000 reward has been offered by police for credible information to Brewton's location.
Atkins was arrested in his home where he appeared "stony faced," reports the Post. Robinson was arrested after a fight at his school.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods gave a press conference on Friday and said that the three suspects and the three victims were collectively in the nascent gang. Concerning the three victims, Sheriff Woods said, "There’s no honor among thieves. At some point, these three individuals turned on our three victims and murdered them."
After the bodies were first found fears grew that their deaths were the product of a serial killer.
On March 30, 16-year-old Layla Silvernail was the first victim found after her body was found on the side of the road and was apparently dumped there. The next day an unidentified 17-year-old boy was found in a nearby ditch and the body was reportedly found wearing black gloves and a ski mask.
Silvernail's car was later found in a local pond miles from where her body was discovered. Police found the third victim, 16-year-old Camille Quarles, in the trunk,
Sheriff Woods said, "They fled the scenes but left a lot of evidence in their wake."
The Sheriff also said the murder weapon was stolen from a car on a separate occasion.
Prosecutors are considering trying the juveniles as adults given the severity of the crimes.
