The Biden-Harris campaign launched an attack ad on Donald Trump earlier this week leading up to the presidential debate on June 27. It appears to be the most aggressive one yet coming from the Biden camp and is reportedly being used to "set up a favorable narrative" against Trump.

Politico reported on Tuesday that "Biden advisers say they plan to hammer Trump over the coming weeks—aiming to both set up a favorable narrative ahead of next week’s debate and keep Trump’s felony conviction top-of-mind for voters."

The aggressive messaging strategy appears in contrast to Special Counsel Robert Hur's description of the incumbent president when he refrained from prosecuting the president in the classified documents case. This was in part because Hur thought Biden would appear to a jury as a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

The ad released on Monday is part of a $50 million campaign ad buy for June, according to Politico. “In the courtroom, we see Donald Trump for who he is. He’s been convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for sexual assault and he committed financial fraud,” the ad’s narrator says as photos of Trump go across the screen. “Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s been working — lowering health care costs and making big corporations pay their fair share.”

The advertisement, meant to target swing states, added, "Between a convicted criminal who’s only out for himself and a president who’s fighting for your family." The full-on assault on Trump represents the Biden campaign's focus on things related to Trump's conviction as well as the other legal battles he has faced.

Biden communications director Michael Tyler stated that the attacks are the "connective tissue that we’re building as we approach the debate.”

The outlet said the campaign is planning on doing so more and more in order to craft the messaging around Trump. However, over the last several weeks since the Trump conviction, polls still show that Trump holds an edge over Biden in the key swing states, according to The Hill.
