A Minnesota teacher who was charged with having sex with a 17-year-old student in a classroom is reportedly on the run after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

24-year-old Caitlin Thao, who was a substitute teacher at St. Paul City School in Minnesota, confessed to having sex with the student after school in an empty classroom. The school issued a letter to parents on Friday about the incident.

The teen admitted to the police last March about the intimate relationship the two had weeks prior in the classroom Thao taught in. Court documents further allege that Thao invited the student to her home but he declined.

Thao resigned weeks after the incident occurred and later admitted to what had happened to a social worker at the Regions Hospital mental health unit.

Intermin executive director for the charter school, Eri Fergen, said that Thao "hasn't worked with us for quite a few months" and declined to comment further on the incident that took place.

The teacher was charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to the Daily Mail, Thao has gone into hiding after a nationwide warrant was issued for her arrest by the Ramsey County District Court. Police are currently unaware of her whereabouts.

Thao faces up to 15 years in prison as well as a fine of up to $30,000.
