The Soldier was assigned to the Air Ambulance Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Carson, Colo. The incident is under investigation."
Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs, just miles away from Fort Carson, wrote his condolences on X.
"Our Colorado Springs community joins the family, loved ones, and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Devin A. Seibel in mourning this heartbreaking loss. Sgt. Seibel died during a training exercise on Sunday in Iraq. Sgt. Seibel answered the call to serve our nation with courage, dedication, and selflessness. We are deeply grateful for his service and sacrifice," Mobolade said.
"Abbey and I are keeping Sgt. Seibel’s family, friends, and brothers and sisters in uniform, in our prayers during this difficult time. We also ask our community to keep them in your hearts and prayers in the days ahead. Colorado Springs stands alongside the men and women of Fort Carson and all who serve our country, as well as the families whose strength and sacrifice make that service possible," he added.
In addition to the death of Seibel, the accident also involved a British Solider who was killed in the same incident.
The British Ministry of Defence wrote in a post to X, "It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of Lance Corporal James Freeman, who died on 31 May following a tragic accident during routine military training activity whilst deployed on Operation SHADER, Iraq."
