"If AG Garland (an unprincipled douchebag) could have secured a conviction against Gaetz, he would have, but he knew he could not. Case closed," Musk said.

Elon Musk has backed Matt Gaetz as President-elect Donald Trump's selection for attorney general in his incoming administration. The backing from Musk comes as the former congressman has faced heavy criticism from many concerning a House Ethics investigation report that has yet to be released surrounding allegations about sexual misconduct. Gaetz stepped down from his elected role as Florida congressman shortly after he was nominated for the position.

"Matt Gaetz has 3 critical assets that are needed for the AG role: a big brain, a spine of steel and an axe to grind. He is the Judge Dredd America needs to clean up a corrupt system and put powerful bad actors in prison. Gaetz will be our Hammer of Justice," Musk posted on X.

"As for these accusations against him, I consider them worth less than nothing," Musk went on. "Under our laws, a man is considered innocent until proven guilty," Musk added. "If AG Garland (an unprincipled douchebag) could have secured a conviction against Gaetz, he would have, but he knew he could not. Case closed." Musk has been tapped to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory board on federal government waste.

Trump's appointment of Gaetz to AG would mean drastic changes at the Department of Justice, as Gaetz has indicated. Officials in the FBI and DOJ have reached out to attorneys in the event that a new Trump AG may seek to prosecute former officials. Gaetz has faced his own inquiries from the Biden-Harris administration's DOJ, which looked into sexual misconduct allegations against him. No charges were filed.

Those allegations against Gaetz were picked up by the House Ethics Committee which has conducted their own investigation. Gaetz is accused of having sex with a woman who was 17 at the time, per the New York Post. Gaetz has denied accusations of wrongdoing.

Trump transition spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer told the Post, "Matt Gaetz will be the next Attorney General. He’s the right man for the job and will end the weaponization of our justice system."

“These are baseless allegations intended to derail the second Trump administration. The Biden Justice Department investigated Gaetz for years and cleared him of wrongdoing. The only people who went to prison over these allegations were those lying about Matt Gaetz," Pfeiffer added.
