“She only speaks to voters behind a teleprompter, everything is scripted, she doesn’t have her policy positions out there."
In an interview with CNN’s State of The Union, Senator and Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance criticized Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of "running a movie" instead of a genuine political campaign. Vance claimed that Harris is a "chameleon" who changes her appearance and identity based on the audience she’s addressing.
“She only speaks to voters behind a teleprompter, everything is scripted, she doesn’t have her policy positions out there,” Vance remarked during the interview. He further criticized Harris for her inconsistent stances on key issues, saying, “She hasn’t answered why she wanted to ban fracking but now she doesn’t. She wanted to defund the police, but now she doesn’t. She wanted to open the border, but now she doesn’t.”
“She should have to answer for why she presents a different set of policies to one audience and a different set of policies to another audience,” Vance added.
CNN's Dana Bash challenged Vance by drawing a parallel between Harris's shifting positions and Vance's own change of heart regarding former President Donald Trump. Vance, who was once a critic of Trump before becoming a supporter, responded by defending the right to change one's mind when circumstances change.
“People change their minds when the facts change, they should,” Vance explained. “But if you want to be the people’s vice president or president, you should have to stand before an interviewer and say ‘This is why I changed my mind.’”
Harris has faced continued criticism for walking back several positions she has held in the past, particularly during her 2020 presidential campaign. These include support for defunding the police, decriminalizing border crossings, eliminating private healthcare, and implementing a gun buyback program, which many saw as a de facto weapons ban.
Despite attempting to walk back these far-left policy proposals, Harris has yet to properly address the media and answer questions about her beliefs during her current presidential run.
