Toronto police are issuing a warning to people about the rise of drug-related deaths in the midtown area of Toronto the past two weeks.

At 12:45 am this morning, the latest fatal incident involving drug use occurred when police were called to the areas of Dupant Street and Spadina Road. A 39-year-old man and woman were found unresponsive.

According to CP24, emergency crews tried their best to resuscitate them. However, the two remained unresponsive and went on to be pronounced dead.

On Thursday, Toronto police stated in a news release that there had been a lot of suspected drug overdoses and four deaths that occurred due to drug consumption over the last two weeks. According to what police had found, most overdoses had been from fentanyl. Police said they are waiting for toxicology reports to see what other types of drugs had caused problems.

"It saddens me deeply, the ongoing deaths of younger people in all of our communities across Ontario," Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore told reporters. "It's very near and dear to me as an investigating coroner, as a family physician, emergency physician, and now as a public health doctor."

Those in need of a substance use treatment facility can visit the Connex Ontario website or call 211. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health can be reached at 1-800-463-2338.
