"But on the other hand, the guy who stands to gain millions of dollars from new vaccines says we need new vaccines, huh?"

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah criticized Moderna's CEO for pushing more vaccinations Thursday, questioning the Big Pharma executive's intentions as an "objective source" in the industry. Many of Noah's left-wing fans, however, are not happy with the liberal late-night comedian's stance on the COVID-19 matter.

"On the one hand, almost all the Omicron cases have been mild so far," Noah said of the new variant. "But on the other hand, the guy who stands to gain millions of dollars from new vaccines says we need new vaccines, huh?"

Noah continued: "Now, look, I'm not saying the CEO of Moderna is lying. I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying I don't think he's the most objective source on this topic. I'll wait to hear what neutral experts say about a new vaccine."

Moderna CEO Stephan Bancel had previously said Tuesday that current vaccines may need to be modified due to the quick spread of the new Omicron variant, the Financial Times had reported. He admitted fears of a "material drop" in COVID-19 vaccine efficacy against newer strains of the disease.

While some supported what's viewed as healthy skepticism, Noah also faced online backlash from a sector of The Daily Show fan base for the remarks.

"Jesus. What's the difference between this and what the anti-vaxx right has been saying?" wrote one critic on Twitter, blasting Noah for switching lanes. "This seems to be spreading an anti-vax point of view," another echoed Thursday.
