Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said at a news conference in Glasgow that he is confident that a "solution" will be found to allow Canada to lower the flag on Remembrance Day.

Trudeau's plan seems to be to raise the flag before November 11 only to lower it again so that Canada can honour the war dead. Trudeau said he is working closely with Indigenous groups to find a solution to this problem.

Canada has had a tradition of lowering the flags to half-mast on November 11 to honour those who sacrificed their lives to save the free world.

Canada's flags were lowered in late May after the discovery of unmarked graves next to a residential school in BC. They have not been raised since.

The prime minister has said that it is up to Indigenous Canadians as to when the flags can be raised again. Trudeau said that talks with Indigenous leaders have been ongoing regarding the November 11 flag lowering.

"There is an understanding of how important it is to be able to lower the flags on Remembrance Day to mark our veterans, to mark people, including Indigenous peoples, who have stepped up to fight for Canadian values and paid the ultimate sacrifice," said the prime minister.
