Former Prime Minister Stephan Harper released a statement on Tuesday, where he called on world leaders to condemn the rocket attacks on Israeli civilians.
In a Tweet Tuesday Stephan Harper called whats happening in Israel this week "horrific" and went on to say that "attacks on the State of Israel are attacks on us all." The Tweet comes as many conservative politicians are calling out world leaders for not strongly supporting Israel.
Israel has seen a massive spike in rocket attacks this week with over 400 rockets being fired into Israel by Hamas.
The Trudeau Liberals' Foreign Affairs Minister, Marc Garneau, released a statement calling for "deescalation." Garneau expressed concerns over "settlements" and "evictions," referring to Israel attempting to move more Israelis into East Jerusalem.
Leader of the Opposition Erin O'Toole released a statement as well, where he condemned the "frightening campaign of rocket attacks by Hamas" and called for an end to the attacks on civilian targets.
O'Toole gave a strong defence of Israel saying, "Israel as a long-standing and important ally. We recognize and support Israel's right to defend itself against such terrorist attacks and urge that precautions are taken to spare innocent lives."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz gave a press conference Tuesday where Netanyahu said, "We are in the midst of a major campaign – Operation Guardian of the Walls. Yesterday and today, the IDF attacked hundreds of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip."
Israel claims to have killed a top Hamas leader in a strike that knocked down a tower in the Gaza Strip. The attack also killed 35 other Palestinians. There are growing fears that the skirmish could turn into a full scale war.
