Trump admin corrects 50 MILLION Social Security records with largest clean-up in history

"Accurate SSN records prevent fraud across federal programs and support the proper administration of benefits,” Commissioner Frank Bisignano said in a statement.

"Accurate SSN records prevent fraud across federal programs and support the proper administration of benefits,” Commissioner Frank Bisignano said in a statement.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) under President Trump has announced that it will be conducting the largest clean-up of SSNs in its history. “The Social Security Number database is our country’s books and records. The database’s accuracy is essential to maintaining integrity of government services for citizens. Accurate SSN records prevent fraud across federal programs and support the proper administration of benefits,” Commissioner Frank Bisignano said in a statement.

"This is the first time SSA has undertaken an effort of this scale, and I am proud of the work we have done to strengthen the foundation of identity data relied upon throughout government and the economy."

The SSA said that approximately 15 percent or around 50 million of all active SSNs have been corrected across 330 million American citizens and 390 million records. SSNs are referred to be agencies in the federal government and in states to verify identities and prevent improper payments in Social Security fraud. During the clean-up, the SSA added records of 17 million deaths that were previously lacking in the system.

25 million records were also updated to reflect current data regarding US citizenship and the SSA is in the process of correcting 8.5 million other records that have inaccurate citizenship statuses. In addition to all this, the agency has also updated its data entry system to be manual to prevent further lapses in the system in the future.

The efforts from the SSA are in line with the Trump administration's efforts to clean up and makes things more efficient in Washington, DC, similar to the efforts from Elon Musk and DOGE. The announcement also comes after the Trump administration announced last week that those getting payments from Social Security will see a bump in payments by 3.6 percent, or $75 a month.
