The order "directs the administration to ensure ineligible aliens are not receiving funds from Social Security Act programs."
The order released from the White House stated that it is "aimed at stopping illegal aliens and other ineligible people from obtaining Social Security Act benefits" and that it "directs the administration to ensure ineligible aliens are not receiving funds from Social Security Act programs."
Fraudulent Social Security claims have been a target that Elon Musk as well as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have been working on to resolve as the DOGE team is working to cut waste, fraud, and abuse out of government spending.
The order "expands the Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) fraud prosecutor program to at least 50 U.S. Attorney Offices and establishes a Medicare and Medicaid fraud-prosecution program in 15 U.S. Attorney Offices."
Additionally, the order "requires the SSA Inspector General to investigate earnings reports for individuals aged 100 or older with mismatched SSA records, to combat identity theft." Earlier this year, DOGE identified a number of Americans who were marked as "alive" in the Social Security database, but were above the age of 100 and even 150 years old.
The order from the White House also "directs the SSA to consider whether to reinstate the use of civil monetary penalties against individuals who engage in Social Security fraud," and then notes that this "effort that has been paused for several years" under the last administration.
The action from the Trump administration adds to the slew of orders that the president has taken to disincentivize illegal immigration in the United States as he has promised to carry out mass deportations.
