The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched their immigration enforcement action in Chicago, called "Operation Midway Blitz." The effort is in honor of Katherine Abraham and Chloe Polzin, 20- and 21-year-olds from Deerfield, Ill who were killed in a drunk driving accident caused by an illegal immigrant.

"DHS is launching Operation Midway Blitz in honor of Katie Abraham who was killed in a drunk driving hit-and-run car wreck caused by criminal illegal alien Julio Cucul-Bol in Illinois," DHS said in a post.

"This ICE operation will target the criminal illegal aliens who flocked to Chicago and Illinois because they knew Governor Pritzker and his sanctuary policies would protect them and allow them to roam free on American streets. President Trump and Secretary Noem stand with the victims of illegal alien crime while Governor Pritzker stands with criminal illegal aliens."

The two, reports local news, "were at a traffic signal with three other passengers when a red Mitsubishi Outlander crashed into them while traveling at about 80 mph," on January 19, 2025. The driver is alleged to be Julio Cucul Bol, 29-years-old, of Guatemala.

Bol was in the country illegally and was using fake Mexican identification documents under the name Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez. He was charged with the hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and immigration related crimes.

Chicago has been a target of DHS' immigration enforcement, and the agency has set up shop at a local military base. Residents of Chicago spoke out under Biden, saying that they were not happy about the massive influx of illegal immigrants into their city, or the cost to taxpayers.

The Trump administration has been at odds with local elected leaders in Chicago, from Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson to Governor JB Pritzker. Both of these men have said that the city and state don't need help from the federal government to deal with crime or immigration.

The city is one of a handful of so-called sanctuary cities in the US, where local elected leaders have forbidden law enforcement in the city from cooperating with federal officials. Chicago canceled Mexican Independence Day events over concerns of ICE enforcement.
