Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remain in a dead heat in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania, with both candidates tied at 49 percent according to a recent CBS poll. Nationally, Harris holds a slim 4-point lead over Trump, leading 52 percent to 48 percent.

In key battleground states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Harris leads slightly with an average of 51 percent to 49 percent. However, the poll revealed tight races in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina, with Harris’ leads all within the margin of error. Trump maintains a small lead in Georgia. None of these leads exceed 3 percent.

Harris is performing strongly among likely voters who view the economy positively, with 88 percent of those voters supporting her. However, 59 percent of voters feel the economy is currently in poor condition, and a majority of those who consider the economy a key issue favor Trump.

Following the presidential debate, voter preferences seem to be influenced by the candidates’ personalities. Among those who prioritize personal qualities, 66 percent side with Harris, while only 33 percent favor Trump. On the other hand, voters who prioritize policies are split evenly between the two candidates at 50 percent.

On immigration, 53 percent of all voters expressed support for Trump’s plans to deport illegal immigrants. Voters who believe that immigrants take jobs from Americans or commit more crimes overwhelmingly favor Trump over Harris.

The poll also explored perceptions of political rhetoric and violence. When asked which political party has engaged in rhetoric that may encourage political violence, 31 percent pointed to Republicans, 22 percent to Democrats, and 42 percent said both parties. Additionally, voters predicted that political violence would increase more if Trump wins, compared to if Harris wins. A staggering 83 percent of voters believe civility in politics has deteriorated.

The CBS poll surveyed 3,129 registered voters nationwide between September 18 and September 20.
