Trump approves firing squad execution of Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan who killed 13 in mass shooting while yelling ‘Allahu Akbar’

Nidal Hasan, who had been an Army psychologist and major, opened fire on November 5, 2009, at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center, killing 12 soldiers and one civilian, as well as injuring 32 others. He was shot and wounded by authorities and was arrested.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote, “Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the attack.”

He said that the Secretary of Army will set the time and place of the execution, adding, “Judgement day for Hasan has finally come.”

Hasan was convicted in 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to death in 2013 and sent to a military detention center at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, per ABC News. Hasan is one of four death row inmates currently in the Army justice system.

The last time a service member was executed was in 1961, when Pvt. John Bennet was executed after being convicted of raping and attempting to kill an 11-year-old girl in Austria. Per NBC News, that execution was carried out by hanging. The last service member to be executed by firing squad was in 1945 for desertion during World War II.
