"These individuals no longer possess a need to access secure facilities."
The Wednesday cabinet memo obtained by the Daily Wire expands on a day-one executive order signed by Trump that revoked the security clearances for the former intelligence officials. The memo was sent on behalf of the President to the Secretaries of State and Defense and the Directors of National Intelligence, CIA, and Office of Personnel Management.
The Trump admin officials "are hereby directed to revoke unescorted access to secure US Government facilities from the 50 former intelligence officials named in the Executive Order. These individuals no longer possess a need to access secure facilities, and as outlined in the Executive order, do not have the appropriate security clearances to access classified information."
The memo noted that if any of the intelligence officials listed in the executive order "received a security clearance by virtue of employment with a private entity" or are granted a security clearance from a government entity not addressed in the memo, the individual should be informed that their access has been revoked.
Included on the list of officials who lost their security clearances were James Clapper Jr., former director of the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Hayden, as well as former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. The initial executive order noted that two signatories, Patty Patricia A. Brandmaeir and Brett Davis, have since died.
