Former President Donald Trump called out the bias of Washington DC District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Monday over her treatment of protestors who went into the Capitol on January 6.

In a post on his Truth Social profile, Trump quoted Chutkan and said that her sentences for people charged in connection to the events of January 6, 2021 were "very biased and unfair."

The statement from Chutkan was about the actions of the people at the Capitol building on January 6. She stated that because of the "hats that they were wearing and the garb" they had on, they showed "loyalty to one man, not the Constitution."

Chutkan's statement continues that she said the events were an expression of "blind loyalty to one person who, by the way, remains free to this day."

Trump believes that the statement given by the judge, who will be overseeing his trial on charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States among others, shows that she will be biased against him during the trial. Trump and his team are seeking the recusal of Chutkan from the case, as well as the movement of the trial to an impartial venue, such as West Virginia.

Judge Chutkan has been known to deal out harsh sentences to those protestors who entered the Capitol. She has sentenced at least 38 people to prison who were convicted of riot-related crimes. The sentences ranged from five days to 10 years, according to Fox 5 DC.

In December of 2021, she talked about her desire to demonstrate justice for the actions on the day. She said it "has to be made clear that trying to violently overthrow the government, trying to stop the peaceful transition of power and assaulting law enforcement officers in that effort is going to be met with absolutely certain punishment."

She has claimed that there are "anti-democratic factions of people plotting violence, the potential threat of violence, in 2024."

Chutkan has also claimed that in comparison to the January 6 protests, the BLM protests of 2020 after Geoge Floyd was killed were a group of "mostly peaceful" people fighting for "civil rights."

Judge Chutkan is an Obama-appointed judge and has a liberal-leaning background.
