"We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!"
The gathering will also mark the party's first major national convention in Dallas since President Ronald Reagan accepted the Republican nomination there in 1984, the only Republican presidential nominating convention ever held in the city.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the convention will celebrate what he called the "Great American Comeback" and the accomplishments of his administration's America First agenda.
"For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas — One of my favorite places in the World. It will be fantastic! It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event," Trump wrote.
The Republican National Committee approved changes earlier this year, allowing the party to hold a national convention outside of the traditional four-year presidential nominating cycle, making the Dallas gathering the first midterm convention in Republican Party history.
The announcement was welcomed by Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters, who said the event would serve as a showcase for the administration's record heading into the 2026 elections.
"This historic Midterm Convention will highlight President Trump's many accomplishments and unwavering commitment to restoring America," Gruters said. "This convention will be a Trumpapalooza, where we will showcase the America First agenda, which has delivered the largest tax cut in history and made communities safer. President Trump will unite Republicans around our shared vision, build momentum, and deliver an incredible convention for our Party."
Trump said the event will feature Americans from a variety of industries and professions, including innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, first responders, and business leaders, while also serving as a major political rally ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. "We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda," Trump wrote.
He pointed to several of his administration's signature policy initiatives, including "NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, STRONGER BORDERS, SAFEST EVER COMMUNITIES, LOWER COSTS AND REAL AFFORDABILITY, MORE JOBS, AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE, AND SO MUCH MORE!"
Trump also touted recent developments in energy markets and foreign policy. "Oil Prices are dropping sharply, even as we Denuclearize Iran," he wrote. "We are delivering on the promises that politicians talked about for decades, but never got done."
According to the president, the event will include more than speeches and policy discussions. "We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!" Trump said.
The announcement comes as Republicans prepare for the 2026 midterm elections, with the White House expected to use the Dallas event to energize supporters and highlight legislative and policy accomplishments during Trump's second term.
The choice of Dallas also carries historical significance. Reagan personally favored the city as the site of the 1984 Republican National Convention, where he accepted his renomination before winning a 49-state landslide victory over Democrat Walter Mondale. That convention featured now-famous speeches from figures including Jeane Kirkpatrick, whose "Blame America First" address became one of the defining moments of the Reagan era.
Trump also framed the gathering as part of the broader lead-up to the nation's semi-quincentennial celebration in 2026. "America's 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness," he wrote.
Trump concluded by saying, "Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future. THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!"
