The record-low ratings for the 2021 Oscars season has caught the former President’s attention. Today Donald Trump did his glorified Twitter replacement in the form of a press release giving his two cents on the botched evening.
In a release today, Trump lists helpful suggestions as to how the Academy Awards ceremony can bring themselves back from the bring of complete irrelevancy.
"What used to be called The Academy Awards, and now is called the 'Oscars'—a far less important and elegant name—had the lowest Television Ratings in recorded history, even much lower than last year, which set another record low. If they keep with the current ridiculous formula, it will only get worse—if that's possible. Go back 15 years, look at the formula they then used, change the name back to THE ACADEMY AWARDS, don't be so politically correct and boring, and do it right. ALSO, BRING BACK A GREAT HOST. These television people spend all their time thinking about how to promote the Democrat Party, which is destroying our Country, and cancel Conservatives and Republicans. That formula certainly hasn’t worked very well for The Academy!"
Trump technically qualifies as an actor after his Home Alone 2 appearance.
Fewer than ten million people tuned into this year's event. According to Deadline as many as 43 million watched the annual show back in 2014. The Academy has been on the decline ever since.
The lack of a host this year (as alluded to by Trump's "BRING BACK A GREAT HOST" remark) was cited by the Los Angeles Times as a worry going into the evening. Other speculation blamed the pandemic's closure of movie theaters as putting a damper on the public's cinema enthusiasm.
Comedian Rockstar Ricky Gervais trolled the Oscars on Twitter by replaying his stellar monologue at the 2020 Golden Globes. Although seen by many as brutally honest, and therefore controversial, it got the public interested.

But Trump’s remarks also hit the political elephant in the room. What he says is basically "the Oscar ratings were low because people don't want to be preached at." The Academy Awards had instituted diversity quotas as well this year.
There were several aspects of the Oscars evening demonstrating as much. To set the mood, Hollywood was in a walled fortress at Union station. In a dueling set of political theater performances, director Travon Free used his acceptance speech to paint the police as ruthless killers. To counter him was Tyler Perry, who won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award that evening.
"I refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer," Perry said in his speech.
