Egg prices have dropped sharply under President Donald Trump, allowing Waffle House to eliminate its 50-cent egg surcharge.

The change comes as egg supply stabilizes nationwide, following a renewed federal strategy to curb avian flu disruptions and restore market balance, something that the Biden administration failed to do.

Waffle House announced this week that the egg surcharge it began applying earlier this year has been officially removed. “Egg-cellent news… as of [July] 2, the egg surcharge is officially off the menu,” the chain said in a post on social media.

The surcharge was introduced in February after egg prices surged during a wave of avian flu outbreaks and ongoing inflationary pressures from Biden's economic mismanagement.

The Georgia-based diner chain, which operates more than 2,000 locations across the US, had cited the rising cost of eggs as the reason for the added fee—impacting its most popular menu item.

Waffle House serves over 272 million eggs annually, CNN reported, more than its orders of hash browns or waffles, according to company figures.

Under the Trump administration, federal agriculture officials implemented a targeted five-point plan aimed at improving biosecurity on farms and restoring poultry production. “On my first day as Secretary, we got to work to implement a five-pronged strategy to improve biosecurity on the farm and lower egg prices on grocery store shelves. The plan has worked, and families are seeing relief,” US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said last week.

According to the US Department of Agriculture, egg prices fell by 12.7 percent in April alone, with the average price for a dozen large eggs now under $3. The price decline has allowed major food chains to roll back temporary surcharges.
