Ex-President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit on Monday against Letitia James, New York State's Attorney General. The lawsuit aims at shutting down what the Trump team calls a purely "political" investigation.
The new investigation into Trump, which James launched on Dec. 9 2021, has ostensibly to do with alleged manipulation of the valuations of his many real estate properties within the state of New York.
Trump's legal team, however, says that his constitutional rights have been violated, since the investigation has political motivations behind it, according to Reuters.
"By filing this lawsuit, we intend to not only hold her accountable for her blatant constitutional violations, but to stop her bitter crusade to punish her political opponent in its tracks," commented Alina Habba in a prepared statement.
Trump and his company, the Trump Organization, are both named as plaintiffs in the motion.
James, on her part, stated that the investigation "our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump."
Trump's legal team has already pointed to statements made publicly by James showing a clear bias against Trump before she was even elected to the position of Attorney General.
