President Donald Trump arrived in Malaysia on Sunday, marking the start of his Asia tour, where he was greeted on the tarmac in Kuala Lumpur with traditional dancers and drummers.

Trump stepped off Air Force One and was seen smiling and pumping his fists to the beat of the music as he briefly danced along with the performers. He mouthed “thank you” to the crowd waving American and Malaysian flags before entering the presidential limousine alongside Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Later in the day, Trump presided over a peace deal ceremony between Cambodia and Thailand, which celebrated the end of a conflict between the two nations that had briefly escalated in July. The conflict is one of several that the president has taken credit for helping bring to an end. The ceasefire signed three months ago was expanded under the new agreement, which would lead to the release of 18 Cambodian prisoners of war.

“This is a momentous day for all of the people of Southeast Asia as we sign a historic agreement to end the military conflict between Cambodia and Thailand,” Trump said at the ceremony.

The event also featured the signing of a trade agreement with Cambodia and a memorandum of understanding on mineral cooperation with Thailand. Additionally, the United States and Malaysia finalized a trade agreement that maintains the tariffs imposed by Trump earlier this year, and the countries committed to continued cooperation with the US on countering China’s influence in the region.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that US and Chinese representatives met to discuss a “very substantial framework” for a potential trade deal. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet later this week, marking their first face-to-face discussion since Trump returned to office.

The White House also announced that the US and Vietnam had agreed to the framework of a new trade arrangement, which keeps the 20 percent tariff on Vietnamese exports in place.

Trump is scheduled to depart Malaysia on Monday for Japan, where he will meet with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the country’s first female leader. The two are expected to discuss the final details of a potential trade deal, according to The New York Times. Trump will then travel to South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
