Two suspects were arrested this week in connection to the deadly shooting at a Mississauga restaurant in late May, with a third suspect still at large, according to police.
On Saturday, May 29, 2021, police responded to a call for a shooting at 7:19pm at the Chicken Land restaurant in the area of The Collegeway and Glen Erin Drive.
According to Peel Regional Police, "The suspect entered the premises and began shooting at the staff, striking the 56-year-old owner, his 44-year-old wife, his two sons aged 22-years-old and 25-years-old, and a 58-year-old male employee. The owner’s 13-year-old daughter was also inside the premises, however, she was not physically injured."
Naim Akl, the 25-year-old son of the restaurant’s owner, was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining victims were transported to nearby trauma centers.
"This was a horrific act of violence which resulted in loss of life and serious injury to the surviving victims. These incidents shatter community safety and will be responded to accordingly with a commitment to bring those responsible to justice while protecting the public," said Peel police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
Police say that the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau identified three suspects responsible for the shooting, two of which were arrested this week.
