The Mayor of Barrie promised an investigation on Thursday after a police officer was seen on camera hitting a man with his taser during an arrest and bashing his head into the pavement.

"I've seen the videos of the violent arrest on Dunlop Street," said Mayor Jeff Lehman. "This will be fully investigated. I won't be ignoring this, and once we have all the details, there will be full accountability."

The video of the incident was posted on Facebook by a bystander, where it went viral. A woman could be heard screaming in the background asking the police officer why he was acting in such a harsh manner.

Barrie Police confirmed the authenticity of the video but did not give any further details on the arrest, saying they are "currently looking into the circumstances."

"We will provide further comment once the details are confirmed," the police promised.

The man was not treated for any injuries, police stated, but have not clarified whether he actually received any injuries.
