During the White House press briefing on Wednesday, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre got into it with a reporter who was unsatisfied with her answer regarding President Biden's holding of classified documents.
Jean-Pierre failed to address his original question regarding a comment Biden made about Trump's classified document fiasco, and when the reporter demanded a follow-up, she simply moved on to the next person.
"I want to reference an interview that President Biden did in mid-September with 60 Minutes," the reporter began. "In that interview, he chided former president Trump for having in his possession classified documents; he called it irresponsible."
"First of all," he asked, "do you think it was proper for President Biden to comment on an ongoing DOJ investigation?"
"I'm gonna keep it really short today as it relates to this particular issue," Jean-Pierre replied. "I am going to refer you to the Department of Justice ... As it relates to anything that you want to ask of us about this legal matter, I would refer you to the White House Counsel office."
The reporter told Jean-Pierre that he was not asking about the ongoing investigation, rather Biden's comments about Trump's handling of classified documents, but she would not hear him out.
"I'm simply asking you to comment on the person that you work for," he said, to which she replied, "I just commented. I just commented."
"We're moving on; I just answered your question," she continued, arguing it was the reporter's "opinion" that she had not when he pressed her on it.
Jean-Pierre eventually moved on to the next reporter, who changed the subject.
Just months after Biden criticized Trump for holding classified documents, similar material was discovered at his former Washington DC office at a think tank from his time as vice president. Numerous others were discovered later at the president's home in Wilmington, Delaware.
When asked about the incident, Biden said he was "surprised to learn that there were any government records that were taken there to that office," adding, "I don't know what's in the documents."
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre chalked the whole thing up to an accident, suggesting that the documents were "inadvertently misplaced" by Biden and his team.
