New York Gov. Cuomo said he is planning to stay in Albany for the inauguration of Joe Biden, citing worries about a potential attack on his own State Capitol.

Gov. Cuomo of NY State said on Monday that he is planning to stay in Albany for the inauguration of Joe Biden, scheduled for Wednesday, citing worries about a potential attack on his own State Capitol in Albany.

"I think that my place is to stay in New York State. If there's a possible situation here at the Capitol, I'm going to be at the Capitol. That's my place," said Cuomo

"I sent my best wishes to President-elect Biden. He's a good friend and it's going to be a great day."

According to the NY Daily News, Cuomo joins standing President Donald Trump in saying he will not be attending the inauguration.

There are no specific threats to the Albany State Capitol at the time of this writing, but nonetheless, security has been beefed up, and the building is now surrounded by a fence to prevent people from getting too close in an effort to prevent a potential repeat of

Major Christopher West of the NY State Troopers commented:

"We are also aware of information that groups have been advocating for armed protests at state capitols nationwide ahead of the inauguration. While there is no credible threat to Albany, we still have taken additional steps to increase security."
