Canada's top doctor Theresa Tam said on Tuesday that even the world's best vaccines "aren't absolutely perfect." The response came after a question from a journalist on why guidelines had not been updated for those who had already received two doses of COVID vaccine.

This news also coincided with Tam's announcement that Canada had reached the 75 percent threshold for the first dose, and 20 percent fully vaccinated second dose.

"This is not the time or place to stop," Tam warned, saying that Canadians still needed to do their part.

Dr. Tam said that the situation was not a "black and white, sort of everybody take out their makss, everybody just do whatever you want" type of situation.

“The bottom line is the public health capacity must be maintained in terms of our testing, sequencing, contact tracing and then isolation capacities,” she said.
