WATCH: Nancy Pelosi claims Trump 'not man enough' to testify before partisan Jan 6 committee

"I don't think he's man enough to show up. I don't think his lawyers will want him to show up because he has to testify under oath. But I don't think he'll show up. I don't think he's man enough. We'll see."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said over the weekend that she doesn't believe former President Donald Trump is "man enough" to appear before the House Select Committee on the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

During an appearance on MSNBC Sunday, Pelosi said, "I don't think he's man enough to show up. I don't think his lawyers will want him to show up because he has to testify under oath. But I don't think he'll show up. I don't think he's man enough. We'll see."

Pelosi's comments came after the committee subpoenaed the former president on Friday, demanding Trump turn over any and all documentation or correspondence leading up to and after the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. They want that communciation by November 4 and demanded that Trump appear before the committee on November 14.

The midterm elections are on November 8, and the balance of power in Congress is what's at stake. Pelosi's committee of 9 only holds two members of the GOP, and both are outgoing. Liz Cheney of Wyoming has been voted out by her constituency and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois has resigned his congressional seat.

Trump has said he "loves the idea" of testifying before the committee.

The committee wrote to Trump, "As demonstrated in our hearings, we have assembled overwhelming evidence, including from dozens of your former appointees and staff, that you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multipart effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power.”

Trump refused to say whether he would comply with a potential subpoena in a 14-page letter to the Jan. 6 Committee earlier this month.

"Despite very poor television ratings, the Unselect Committee has perpetuated a Show Trial the likes of which this Country has never seen before," Trump said in the letter.

Trump said he would "talk about how corrupt the election was, how corrupt the committee was, and how Nancy Pelosi did not call up the National Guard that Trump strongly recommended for her to do three days earlier on January 3, 2021."

Pelosi added during the MSNBC interview, "We'll see if he's man enough to show up, and the public should make a judgment. No one is above the law. If we believe that, then they should make a judgment about how he responds to that request."

"Whatever actions the committee may take is up to them," Pelosi said, despite having convened the partisan committee. "I've kept my distance from their decision-making, but whatever they decide will also send a message about his respect. He isn't honoring the oath we take to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. That's a serious oath that we all take, and clearly, most of us had more respect for the office he held than he had."

Earlier this month, the Jan. 6 Committee revealed footage of Pelosi saying she was going to "punch" former President Donald Trump as he gave a speech at his "Stop the Steal" rally in a video shot and produced by her daughter, documentary filmmaker, Alexandra Pelosi, who was professionally filming the events of January 6 by her mother's side before the riot.

Pelosi boasted before fleeing the Capitol and heading to Fort McNair, "I hope [Trump] comes. I’m gonna punch him out! This is my moment … I’m gonna punch him out and I’m gonna go to jail and I’m gonna be happy.”
