WATCH: Pierre Poilievre says 'everything feels broken' after 8 years of Trudeau

"Let me tell you something, Justin," he said, "there is pain in the faces you do not see; there is suffering in the voices you do not hear; there is distress and even chaos in the places you do not go."

In a fiery speech to the Conservative caucus on Friday, party leader Pierre Poilievre doubled down on his criticism of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, suggesting that during the past eight years of Liberal rule, everything in Canada has gotten worse.

Poilievre went down a laundry list of the Liberals' failures and questioned why, despite the pleas from ordinary Canadians to fix what has become broken, Trudeau continues to tell the rich and powerful that everything is fine.

"What's happening in our country?" Poilievre began. "Seriously, look around you; crime is raging out of control in our streets, our people are desperate ... because of rising interest rates the government promised would never happen, ... and families who have been locked down for two years because of Covid are now locked down at airports when they try to get away for a small vacation."

"Everything feels broken," he lamented.

Poilievre went on to slam Trudeau for getting angry whenever such problems are brought up by ordinary Canadians, pointing out that the prime minister would rather hobnob with elites who don't face the consequences of his actions.

"He told 2,000 Liberal lobbyists and political staffers and consultants, who'd paid $500 to listen to him speak, that Canadians have never had it so good," Poilievre said, "and you know what, for the people in that room, he's absolutely right."

"The thousand-dollar-a-day consultants at McKinsey have never had it so good," he stated. "All the political staffers on the hill who are giving out these contracts to their long-term friends, they've never had it so good either."

Taking on a more serious tone, Poilievre directed his words to the prime minister. "Let me tell you something, Justin," he said, "there is pain in the faces you do not see; there is suffering in the voices you do not hear; there is distress and even chaos in the places you do not go."

Poilievre went on to reveal the stories of real Canadians he'd spoken with who are bearing the brunt of Trudeau's policies, including a cook who had to delay his retirement because he couldn't afford food, and an elderly woman in northern Ontario who lived in the cold because the carbon tax made it too expensive to heat her home.

"You might hear from some of the people who come to the food bank asking for help getting medical assistance in dying," he lamented, "not because they're sick, but because they're too poor and too miserable after eight years of your leadership to go on living like this."
