Daily Show Host Trevor Noah lambasted New York City's vaccination mandates on Monday, after Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving was barred from playing in Sundays game, but was allowed to attend the game as a fan.
"Restrictions are being lifted so quickly, that things are getting a little confusing, you know. Like for example, okay right here in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has lifted the rule that you have to be vaccinated to attend indoor events, that is gone," Noah said.
"But there is still a rule that you have to be vaccinated to go to your workplace. So if someone's job is at an indoor event, they can't go to work. But they can show up to work to watch their colleagues do their thing. Yeah, which is exactly what happened this weekend."
"...Shit like this makes zero sense, can we agree on this? So Kyrie can go inside, not wear a mask, even hug a teammate but he cannot play … Does the ball have a weak immune system?" he asked.
Noah is the latest person to come out and ridicule the set rules. Yesterday, Irving's teammate Kevin Durant called the city's mandate "ridiculous" in a post-game interview Sunday and pointed the finger at Democrat Mayor Eric Adams, who he said was craving attention.
"It's ridiculous. I don't understand it at all," Durant said while mentioning that there are people in the arena who are unvaccinated. "It just feels like, at this point now, someone is trying to make a statement or point to flex their authority."
He added, "Everybody out here looking for attention. "I feel like that's what the Mayor wants right now; some attention."
"He'll figure it out soon, he'd better. But it just didn't make any sense, there's un-vaxxed people in the building already, we got a guy who can come into the building...what, are they fearing our safety? I don't get it."
"We're all confused. Pretty much everybody in the world is confused at this point. Early on in the season, people didn't understand what was going on but now, it just looks stupid. Eric, you gotta figure this out."
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James echoed Durant’s sentiments in a tweet.
