NBA star Kevin Durant called New York City's vaccine mandate "ridiculous" in a post-game interview Sunday and accused Democrat Mayor Eric Adams of craving attention referencing his teammate Kyrie Irving still being unable to play home games.

During the press conference following the narrow victory over cross-town rivals the New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets forward criticized the city's vaccine mandate which means that Irving, who is unvaccinated, was allowed to attend the game but couldn't play due to Adams' restrictions.

"It's ridiculous. I don't understand it at all," Durant said while mentioning that there are people in the arena who are unvaccinated. "It just feels like, at this point now, someone is trying to make a statement or point to flex their authority."

He added, "Everybody out here looking for attention. "I feel like that's what the Mayor wants right now; some attention."

"He'll figure it out soon, he'd better. But it just didn't make any sense, there's un-vaxxed people in the building already, we got a guy who can come into the building...what, are they fearing our safety? I don't get it."

Durant then called out the Mayor directly. "We're all confused. Pretty much everybody in the world is confused at this point. Early on in the season, people didn't understand what was going on but now, it just looks stupid. Eric, you gotta figure this out."

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James echoed Durant’s sentiments in a Tweet Sunday tweet on Sunday.

"FACTS FACTS FACTS!! It literally makes ABSOLUTELY ZERO SENSE!!! They say if common sense was common then we'd all have it. Ain't that the truth #FreeKyrie"

During a news conference Sunday, Adams responded and said, "Kyrie can play tomorrow," Adams responded. "Get vaccinated."

Irving came back to play away games in February after sitting out the first few months of the season due to his anti-vaccine position. Irving is eligible for only four more road games this season.
