Vice President Kamala Harris has come under fire for not saluting the military guards that keep watch as she boards Air Force two. Both Vice President Mike Pence and then-Vice President Joe Biden did salute those military members prior to taking off in the vice presidential plane.

In the video, she simply walks past them as they offer her their salute.

A video shot on Monday showed clearly that Harris walked past those servicemen without taking notice or offering the traditional salute. Former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik pointed this out as disgraceful.

Fox News reported that this is consistent behavior for Harris. They reported that "Video reviewed by Fox News showed that Harris did not salute the honor guard on Monday nor during earlier trips on March 15 and 16. She did not appear to salute when disembarking Air Force One with Biden on March 19 either."

While Harris is not part of the chain of military command, and not required to salute, it has been part of the tradition. However, presidents are also not required to salute, yet since President Ronald Reagan, they all have, according to the Huffington Post.

Huff Po pointed out that it is not required for Harris to salute as part of a "fact check." The fact checkers were unable to dispute the fact that she did not salute, since she did not salute, but they did say that it is not required, since she is a civilian.

However, her predecessors appeared to believe that saluting the military that work hard to protect both Americans and her elected leaders showed their respect for their service.
