WNBA player says women should get paid more because they have period cramps, give birth

A WNBA player has said that she and other women should get paid more money generally because women have period cramps and are the people who give birth to children. The comments were made during the WNBA's Orange Carpet event on Thursday.

Paige Buckers, a guard on the Dallas Wings, was speaking to reporters about the subject of money when she was asked why women "deserve more money."

"Women should have more money because they have period cramps. They need to give birth. Women are the most elite human beings in the world, and we carry so much on our shoulders," Buckers said in response.

Other players who were asked about the topic of money talked about what they thought it was good to spend more money on as well as what they had wished they could tell their younger self about money. The video, which has gone viral online, comes as women in the WNBA have been pushing for higher salaries despite low viewership in comparison to the NBA.

One social media user replied to the video saying the suggestion was "something a 10 year old would say."

Another said, "So dumb, our bodies are designed to these things, they’re not illnesses."

The Orange Carpet event in Chicago, however, was skipped by Caitlin Clark, who was attending a charity event for the Caitlin Clark Foundation, according to USA Today. The paper had originally claimed that Clark was merely getting her hair done but had to issue a major correction to the story.
